The concentrations of Cd, Co and Mn were found to be below the detection limits, whereas the concentrations of Pb, Zn, Cu, Cr and Ni were 0.17-0.30; 5.41-10.95; 0.28-0.53; 0.16-0.42; 0.12-0.41 mg kg-1 (wet weight) respectively. The concentrations of Cd and Pb in the edible tissues of picarel were found to be below the maximum permissible limit values (Cd: 0.05 mg kg-1 ve Pb: 0.30 mg kg-1) published by the European Commission and Turkish Food Codex Regulation on Contaminants. Additionally, Hazard Quotient (HQ) calculated by the metal concentrations in the tissues and the consumption data, was detected not to be exceeded the HQ 1, specified as the limit value. In the light of these results, the consumption of picarel from sampling sites would not present any potential risk to human health for the above indicated metals.
